Telemental Health

In addition to providing in-person treatment at my office in NW Boise, I also provide telemental (also referred to as telehealth) counseling services via my HIPAA-compliant video chat.

Telehealth is a great way to access counseling if the area you live in doesn't have therapists or feels to small to safely access therapy.

Telehealth counseling services is restricted to those who live in Idaho. You must be physically present in the state of Idaho, have a webcam, a microphone, and a stable Internet connection.

About Telemental Health

Telemental health is the use of video chat to provide mental health services. Research shows that telemental counseling is just as effective as in-person counseling (Osenbach, O’Brien, Mishkind, & Smolenski, 2013; Batastini, Paprzycki, Jones, & MacLean, 2020; Lin, Heckman, & Anderson, 2022).

I provide telehealth services to people in Idaho using secure, HIPAA-compliant video chat using their web browser on a computer, tablet, or phone. It does require an Internet/wifi/data connection, camera, and microphone. You will receive a new link every week (by e-mail and text) for security and privacy purposes.

Benefits of Telemental Health

  • It doesn’t require travel

  • It's more flexible - meaning you can do it from any space where you have absolute privacy

  • Broad reach means that individuals in areas of Idaho without therapy services can access mental health services easier

Drawbacks of Telemental Health

  • Possibly easier to get distracted, being at home

  • Quality of video or audio can be poor

  • It may be difficult to use the telehealth service if your Internet connection is unstable or poor

If you are experiencing a difficult time in your life and are struggling to find access to a counselor near you, know that telehealth services are available to you no matter where you are in Idaho. Please get in touch for your free, 15-minute phone call consultation to discuss your options.
